Most of my posts talk about the mental and physical challenges of mountaineering, specifically summit day.
I have to admit I’ve had some tough climbs, but one of the toughest emotional, mental and physical days (actually week) of my life occurred on November 10, 2022. This was not a summit, however, nor was it even a mountain. It was saying good-bye forever to our beloved dog of 16 years, Winston.
It was one of the hardest things Lauren and I have ever had to do, to the cutest, most innocent and most loving being we’ve ever met. In fact, it still hurts my heart to write about Winston. Although he was just a little 15-pound teddy bear, he was a big part of our lives for so many reasons, big and small. Let's put it this way: he was a little man with a big personality!
On the morning of November 10, Winston passed away peacefully in our home, with Lauren and me by his side, on his favorite spot on the couch. It already isn’t the same without having our little buddy roaming around the house, greeting me at the door when I come home, leading the way on walks, or reminding us every night that it is dinner and Greenie time (usually 30 minutes in advance).
Although the wolf pack is now one less, the love and memories for Winston are not and will not be forgotten.
Rest in Peace, my little buddy!!
